December 15, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Culinary Retreat on the Mornington peninsula, cooking class and lunch included

Join Kelly from The Hellenic Odyssey, a Greek home cook with a proud heritage, as we come together at Georges Boutique Hotel and Culinary Retreat. Spend the day on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, to create a generous spread of food and to learn about the Mediterranean diet, Greek food and culture.

You will learn how to prepare traditional authentic dishes that you won’t commonly find in a Greek restaurant. It is food that you would expect to eat in the kitchen of a Greek family home.

The menu will include Cretan dakos (barley rusk with tomato), dolmades (vine leaves or silverbeet parcels filled with rice), kalitsounia (individual cheese pastries), zucchini fritters, keftedes (mince patties) served with the tzatziki (yoghurt dip) and pastitsio (pasta bake dish with mince and béchamel sauce).

For dessert, ladokouloura (olive oil biscuits) and a well-known favourite, galaktoboureko (custard pie)

The Mediterranean diet

The Mediterranean Diet is a dietary pattern modelled on the eating habits of the Cretans in the 1950s. It not only looks at what we eat but how we eat.  It rests on the premise that the very basic act of eating brings people together and creates a sense of community. Food forms an important part of the human experience. Food makes us feel, it evokes emotion and memories.

Furthermore, As the Mediterranean diet places a lot of focus on the role of food within the home environment. We will prepare all the meals together and sit in the picturesque dining room of the warm, welcoming and hospitable environment of George’s Boutique Hotel. Then we will share the dishes that we have prepared with the peninsula as our backdrop.  Listening to Greek music and watching videos about Greece. Finally you will get firsthand information about the country, its culture, its food, travel ideas and also learn how to dance the Zorba!

Bring your friends, family or colleagues and make of day of it.
